Born in Rio de Janeiro, educated at the American School of Rio, Ana Zinger started her career with vocal- instrumental band “Garage” with Grammy nominated guitarist Ricardo Silveira. This band was a trend- setter in the Brazilian music scene, having introduced fusion to Brazilian jazz lovers. In the ‘80s she worked for several tours as the opening act for trumpet master Marcio Montarroyos, Down Beat Magazine five star musician. That work lended her great exposure in Brazilian Jazz scene, placing her right on the laps of studio action. Later she took part in Dori Caymmi’s American recordings, produced by Sergio Mendes and released in the USA under the WEA label. As a studio singer, Ana Zinger worked in records and toured with some of the biggest names in the music business today. Stars like Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Roberto Carlos (Brazil’s all times best-seller) Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo, Gal Costa and the English band Matt Bianco.

As a result of her intensive studio activity, Ana was invited by pianist and composer Luiz Avellar to join virtuoso vocal group “Be Happy” for which she became the lead singer and the band’s voice personality. In 1993, “Be Happy” released their first album in Japan. Subsequently, she left the band with the intent to pursue a solo career when, after working with producer guitarist Torcuato Mariano in the completion of his first American released album under the Windham Hill label, where she sang Stevie Wonder’s hit “I can’t help it”, primarily recorded by Michael Jackson in his “Off the Wall” album.

In 1994, Ana recorded her first solo album
released in Brazil and in Japan. In this album,
called “A New Vision”, she sings gems of great
Brazilian composers such as Tom Jobim, Baden
Powell and Djavan, giving new renditions to
famous songs.
A long list of shows and performances in jazz
clubs and theatres of Rio, Sao Paulo and other
cities of Brazil followed. Important radio and
studio guest appearances also followed with
other significant names such as Milton
Nascimento, among many others. At the same
time her career has developed in two key
directions. The reinterpretation of Brazilian
standards and the deepening of her love for jazz
became the drives of her career.
For six months Ana was the lead singer of a
Brazilian Music Hall show at Beau Rivage
Cassino in Mississipi, where she did more
than one hundred performances. Back in
Brazil in 2003 she engaged in her two
present shows: A Tribute to the Jazz Divas
and Brazilian Divas – The Music of Women.
Both shows, are supported by different
groups of musicians. The line-ups are
made of young instrumentalists who
guarantee the desired new approach to
beloved songs of both the Brazilian and
American songbooks. Brazilian Divas – The
Music of women explores more than one
century of music, ranging from Carlos
Gomes, the opera composer, and Villa-
Lobos, the greatest name in Brazilian
music, from Bossa Nova to MPB giants like
Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo and and of course
Antonio Carlos Jobim.
On 2007, Ana was invited to participate of
the Villa Melchett Classical Festival,on the
seashore of Lake Kinneret(Sea of Galilee)
in Israel, where she sang classics of the
bossa nova repertoire accompained by the
Synfonietta Beer Sheva Orquestra,
conducted by maestro Yaron Gottfried.
Ana Zinger is currently singing in the
hottest Brazilian music spots and clubs of
Rio de Janeiro, with a repertoire which
focus on Samba and Bossa Nova,
enchanting a young audience with the
gems of the hit list.
